Mechanical Engineering is concerned with the production, transmission and use of mechanical power and heat. It is the largest branch of the engineering industry extending across many interdisciplinary, interdependent specialties. It is concerned with the design, operation and maintenance of machines, their components, machine tools, manufacturing systems and processes, components of thermal power stations, solar energy, air conditioning and refrigeration and industrial engineering.

" The acquire unique skills which lead to independent, constructive and creative thinking. "

The Objective
As a branch of engineering, a course in Mechanical, to give students a broad exposure to all areas of Mechanical Engineering and mold them to be technically competitive and place them ahead in the race for quality employment. To enable the students to acquire practical experience in Mechanical Engineering discipline through design projects and opportunities to work with faculty in research.

The skills involved
Students of this course develop basic skills of fitting, welding, sheet metal, and pass on to be trained in material testing and foundry. They acquire unique skills in the areas of CAD & CAM CNC, Robotics, Finite element analysis, Heat transfer, IC Engines, Hydraulics Machinery etc. All this leads to independent, constructive and creative thinking.

Career Opportunity
Mechanical engineers are required in almost every sector of the industry. Since the tremendous impact of globalization has been in the field of mechanical manufacturing, a mechanical engineering student has certainly an edge over others. The areas of employment are machine tools, railway engineering, aerospace, automobile industry, industrial and office machinery, farm equipment, petroleum, pharmaceuticals, fabricated metal products, pulp and paper, heating and ventilation systems and so on.
